El Dorado Fire Department

Let me tell you a little bit about the El Dorado Fire Department. There are 53 employees which consist of 1 Chief, 3 Assistant Chiefs, 11 Captains, 11 Lieutenants and 26 Firefighters. Out of the 53 employees, there are 19 medics and the rest are at least EMT's. We have four women in our department which do their job well. El Dorado has a population of around 27,000. Our Fire Department covers the city only but occasionally responds out in the county to assist with the volunteer fire departments or the County Anbulance Service. There are 3 medic ambulances and one back up. I have listed below the four stations that the fire department provides and the equipment at each one....

Central Fire Station located at 200 N. W. Avenue has the following:

FD-1 95 Chev.

FD-5 89 FMC

FD-5 82 Ford ladder truck

FD-8 96 Dodge extrication truck

Station #2 located at 1402 E. Hillsboro has:

FD-2 89 FMC

M-2 94 Ford

Station #3 located at 403 Griffith has:

D-3 93 Quality

M-3 93 Ford

Station #4 located at 1415 West Hillsboro

FD-4 93 Quality

M-4 97 Ford

The city just built three new substations within the past couple of years. There are 3 employees at each station except for Central. Central usually has 5 or more. Each station is just like home. We work 24 hour shifts. There are 2 shifts A and B. We work 24 hours on, 24 off, 24 on, and then 72 off. We also have a Hazardous Materials Response Team that consist of a group of trained individuals who perform such rescues as high rise, trench, confined space and swift water. There is also a rescue trailer that is full of equipment. We also have a (MCTU) Multiple Casualty Triage Unit. This trailer has equipment that can treat up to 150 people at one time, and the last trailer we have is the Incident Command Post. Here are radios and telephones that can be used in a hazemat incident. We have plenty of professionals that can get the job done in any given situtation. Below you will find a few pics of our equipment that we are proud to have here at the El Dorado Fire Department!!!!
